Author Rick Stewart was born in North Yorkshire in 1967. He was educated at Stamford School in Lincolnshire, Dundee University where he gained an honours degree in Town Planning, and Bournemouth University where he was awarded a Masters Degree in Coastal Management.

Since 1995 Rick has worked at Morwellham Quay Museum, Devon where he is employed as Deputy Mine Manager.

In 2003 Rick was awarded the prestigous Tratman Award for his cave guide to the North York Moors. The same year saw the publication of C.F.Barclays ‘Mines of the Tamar and Tavy’ and ‘Devon Great Consols, a collection of contemporary articles & reports’.

‘Ore Dressing at Devon Great Consols 1844 - 1978’ is Ricks first written work on metalliferous mining.

Rick is also a regular contributer to ‘The Narrow Gauge’ magazine with articles relating to subterranean narrow gauge railway projects.
